Top Ten Hazards Working from Home

Top Ten Hazards Working from Home

Even prior to the coronavirus pandemic, more and more companies were allowing their employees to telecommute and work from home.  That number has jumped exponentially with the arrival of COVID-19 and I believe that working from home is here to stay for many workers.  Given this, there has been an increase in the number of work-related injuries that occur while employees are performing their job duties at home, and these injuries as just as compensable as those injuries that take place in the middle of a warehouse, and workers’ compensation insurance carriers are looking at the most likely causes of work from home job injuries, and the Top Ten Hazards faced when working from home are as follows (and not-having to deal with one’s family is not listed) in descending order:

  • Furniture corners,
  • Glass accidents,
  • Falls in the bathroom (see),
  • Falls/flips from chairs,
  • Head injuries caused from cabinets,
  • Injuries caused by machinery,
  • Burns,
  • Stairway accidents,
  • Tripping over carpet or cables, and
  • Slips and Falls on wet floors.

To reiterate, the fact you were in your own house does not mean that you don’t have a workers’ compensation claim.  If you suffered an injury while performing your job duties, you are entitled to Alabama workers compensation benefits as long as you can show that you were engaged in work activity at the time of your injury.

If you have suffered a work injury and you have questions about your right to Alabama Workers’ Compensation benefits, don’t hesitate to contact and speak with one of the experienced Alabama Job Injury Attorneys at Powell and Denny today for a free consultation; and remember, virtual appointments are available via Zoom to better protect you from the coronavirus pandemic.
