Hiring a Lawyer during the Coronavirus Pandemic

Hiring a Lawyer during the Coronavirus Pandemic

For the last 4 months our country has been battling the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), but as the economy has reopened and we have returned to work, workers have suffered job injuries.  Most work injuries are minor in nature, but unfortunately many suffer serious injuries which require extended time off from work, surgery and can be life changing, and sometimes lead to the injured worker having to file for Social Security Disability benefits.

We have all been instructed that we should practice social distancing, to wash our hands frequently and to wear a mask when in public; and that is for those with no factors that would make them more susceptible to catching the coronavirus.  Those who have suffered serious workplace injuries in Alabama-or who believe that they are disabled-should at least speak with an attorney who is experienced in handling Alabama Workers’ Compensation or Social Security Disability or SSI disability claims, but in their weakened condition-many are understandably wary of getting out to meet with a lawyer to hire them to help them navigate through our workers’ compensation system or the Social Security Disability process

Given the coronavirus pandemic, in person meetings are not encouraged for the protection of everyone.  Even the Courts are holding hearings and trial virtually through computer programs.  However, if you are wanting to hire a lawyer to help you with you workers compensation or Social Security Disability, you still want to meet the lawyer who will actually be representing you in your claim, and you should.  Talking to some faceless person over the phone is just not the same.

With this in mind, we at Powell and Denny are now meeting virtually with potential new clients-and existing clients-at our client’s requests.  We still have in office appointments available, but most of the people who have contacted our office over the last few months have preferred to “meet” with us virtually through Zoom-and it is working well.

Dealing with clients whom we cannot currently sit down with across the desk is not anything new for us.  As Alabama workers’ compensation attorneys, we have handled cases where our clients lived in different cities.  We have represented clients who lived from Los Angeles to Boston, from Dallas to Lexington.  Many jobs require workers to drive through various States, and when they suffer a job injury in Alabama, they want an Alabama Workers’ Compensation lawyer.  Now, we are able to continue representing clients who live throughout the country and see each other while talking through a Zoom appointment, and we can do the same for more local clients and potential clients who are warry of getting out during the COVID-19 crisis.

If you would like to meet with one of our experienced Alabama Workers Compensation or Alabama Disability Attorneys-we can easily do so while ensuring that you are not unnecessarily exposed to the coronavirus.  We can email, fax or mail any needed paperwork to you and handle the case virtually until you are comfortable coming in to meet with us in person.  And for our existing clients-appointments can easily be scheduled so we can meet virtually to discuss your case as well.

If you have questions about your right to Alabama Workers’ Compensation benefits, or Social Security Disability or SSI benefits, don’t hesitate to contact the experienced attorneys at Powell and Denny today to schedule a virtual appointment or a face-to-face meeting.
