Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) suffer Job Injuries four times higher than all other professions

Emergency medical technicians (EMTs), who provide basic life support services, and paramedics, who also provide advanced life support services, suffer work injuries requiring treatment in the emergency room at a rate four times higher than workers in all other professions in the United States, according to one federal study.

It’s not just EMTs who suffer job injuries at a greater rate than other workers-did you know that all healthcare workers suffer job injuries in a greater percentage than any other industries? Healthcare workers know this, but most workers think that people who work in construction or manufacturing suffer the most back injuries, but they would be incorrect.

Through the years my partner and I have represented many healthcare workers and First Responders in workers’ compensation cases where they suffered traumatic back, neck and/or shoulder injuries while assisting a patient. According to government statistics, six of the top 10 professions at the greatest risk for back injuries were: certified nursing assistants (CNA), licenses practical nurses, registered nurses, health aides, radiology technicians and physical therapists.

First Responders and Healthcare workers spend their entire carriers helping others; if you are a health care worker in Alabama and you have suffered a job-related injury, to your back or otherwise, be sure to take care of yourself.
