Alabama Workers Compensation Questions to ask TV law firms

Alabama Workers Compensation Questions to ask TV law firms

Alabama Workers Compensation Questions to ask TV law firms.  We’ve all seen them, commercials by law firms talking about how large they are and the number of offices they have throughout Alabama, the Southeast and the Nation-and they all have commercials for Alabama workers’ compensation claims.  Injured workers understandably see these commercials and think “that’s who I should hire,” but before you do so, you should ask some questions of these TV firms.

First, you should ask if the firm actually has an office in Alabama.  There is a firm that has recently started advertising heavily for work injury claims in Alabama, but they don’t have an actual office here.  Instead, they refer their Alabama workers compensation claims to another firm to handle.  If you call one of these TV firms, ask if THEY are actually located in Alabama and if they have attorneys employed by them who will be working on your case, not associates who work at another firm where they will send your case.

Second, you should ask if the firm actually handles workers’ compensation claims.  This may sound strange because what firm would pay hundred of thousands of dollars advertising for workers comp claims if they don’t handle them?  Well, one firm that loves to talk about their size on TV actually farms out their Alabama workers’ compensation claims out to other attorneys who handle Alabama job injury claims, and in return these referring attorneys refer them serious personal injury claims.  If you are hiring a firm because their commercials talk about their size and you are persuaded to hire them because of this, then shouldn’t you at least actually be represented by the large TV firm and not by someone at another firm with whom they have a referral agreement?

Third, ask if the attorney you are told will represent you is the person you will be talking with during the pendency of your claim.  Through the years we have been hired by injured workers who, after hiring a TV law firm, decided a large TV firm really wasn’t for them because they could never form a relationship with their attorney.  Why couldn’t they?  Because they never spoke with the lawyer they were told was actually representing them.  Instead, they were directed to call one person if they were having a problem receiving their ttd check, another person if they were having problems getting their doctor’s appointments scheduled, treatment authorized or their medication filled and another person to report how their treatment was progressing.  These former clients felt like they were just a number whose case was being directed by everyone except the lawyer they thought was handling their case.  If the TV firm is keeping you at arm’s length away so as to prevent you from talking about your worries and concerns with your attorney-it is hard to believe they do take your claim as personally as they advertise.  Another large advertising firm is pushing the idea of sending texts to someone at the law firm or entering information on a site, so you don’t even have to talk to the lawyer.  Really?

You should know your lawyer, and they should know you.

We understand that we have to earn our client’s trust, that is one of the reasons we post so many blogs, have a section of Frequently Asked Questions on workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability issues and offer a free copy of our booklet “My Alabama Disability Claim” to anyone who requests a copy.  We strive to provide our clients with as much information as possible so they will understand the process they are involved in so they can have peace of mind that they have chosen the right lawyers for their case.  And if you hire Powell and Denny, you will either communicate with Mr. Powell, Mr. Denny or Ms. Oliver, and you will get to know us as we get to know you.
