Alabama Workers Compensation Questions: (3) What am I entitled to receive?

AL Workers Compensation Questions: (3) What am I entitled to receive? If you have suffered a compensable job injury in Alabama, then you are most likely entitled to Alabama workers comp benefits. Many workers are aware of this fact, but most are not really sure what benefits they are entitled to when they suffer a job injury.

If you have a valid workers comp claim in Alabama, then you are entitled to several benefits. First, you are entitled to medical benefits-meaning that your employer (through their workers comp insurance carrier) has to pay for all your reasonably necessary medical treatment and care–but you do have to see their doctor (more will be written on this in our blog “Medical Benefits”). If your injury is such that your have to miss more than 3 days from work, you are entitled to temporary total disability benefits during the time you are off work (for more information, check our blog entitled “TTD Benefits”); if your injury does not totally prevent you from being able to work but does cause you to work/earn less money, then you are entitled to temporary partial disability benefits (check our blog “TPD Benefits”).

You are entitled to mileage reimbursement for driving back and forth to the authorized treating physician and to your pharmacy. If you sustain a permanent physical impairment as the result of a job injury, then you are entitled to compensation for said impairment. If your injury is to the neck, shoulders, hips, back or is such that it adversely effects the efficient functioning of your entire body and you can no longer perform you job duties or make the same type of money, then you are entitled to vocational benefits. You are also entitled to have your employer’s workers comp carrier pay for your reasonably necessary medical care for the rest of your life as long of your condition is not made worse by some intervening accident.
