Alabama Disability Attorneys Never Met your Lawyer before the Hearing

Alabama Disability Attorneys Never Met your Lawyer before the Hearing

We see it all the time. Alabama citizens who have applied for Social Security Disability benefits, who hired some TV law firm after being denied their disability benefits, sitting in the waiting area at the Office of Hearing Operations (OHO)-when a lawyer walks in the room and calls out their name. You can see their faces drop and their anxiety level rise. They have never seen this lawyer before in their life, and the lawyer doesn’t have the faintest idea who they are or what conditions make them disabled.

I have had Security Guards at various OHO offices tell me that this is a common occurrence, and hear many people complain about it when they call our office and ask if we will help them appeal their unfavorable decision. Unfortunately, we rarely take cases we did not handle at the hearing level for appeal because the grounds for our appeal center on what happened during their hearing; on the legal arguments made and evidence submitted by the initial attorney.

If you are fine with having someone you have never met represent you on one of the most important days of your life-good luck. If you are anything like me, you probably would be hesitant to trust an absolute stranger with your future. I would ask the judge for a continuance so I could find someone to represent ME and treat me as an individual, not just as a number.

At Powell and Denny, both Mr. Powell and Mr. Denny have over 28 years of experience handling Social Security Disability claims, as well as SSI claims. We meet with our clients at the onset, and will speak with us during the pendency of their claim. Prior to our hearing on our client’s claim for disability benefits, we will personally meet with our client to prepare them for the hearing. This is not something you can do in 5-10 minutes; it takes time to explain everything to your client and to review the records and evidence we have complied so our client can do their best at their hearing.

You will have met and discussed your case with the lawyer who is going to represent you at your hearing for Social Security disability benefits, not passed onto someone who does not know you or the facts of your case.

If you have been denied Social Security Disability benefits, and you have questions about your right to disability benefits, don’t hesitate to contact and speak with one of the experienced Alabama Social Security Disability Lawyers at Powell and Denny today for a free consultation.  Virtual appointments are available through Zoom to better protect you from the coronavirus pandemic.
