If you were a young child in the early 70’s like I was, there is a good chance that you grew up watching Zoom on your local PBS station. Everyone at Bachman Elementary School seemed to watch it, and we all learned how to do the arm twirl that Bernadette did in the opening. Hearing the theme song always brought back good memories, but now Zoom has a new meaning.
Given the global pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus, everyone (especially those of us in Alabama) and being asked to Stay at Home as much as possible, and to wear a mask and practice social distancing when out in public for everyone’s safety. Given the current social climate, State and Federal Courts are asking that hearings (and even some trials) take place virtually, and the system adopted by the Alabama Court System is Zoom.
Zoom is a computer program that allows persons to see and speak with each other from the safety and comfort of their homes, and at Powell and Denny we are using Zoom to virtually meet with our existing clients and with potential new clients. This better protects our clients and our staff, while allowing our clients and prospective new clients to actually see us instead of just hearing our voices over the phone. We believe that these virtual appointments help our clients form a stronger relationship with the attorney who will be representing them, and help them feel more comfortable with their legal team.
We have been signing up new clients, meeting and preparing current clients for hearings and depositions, and conducting Court hearings since the pandemic began, and our clients seem to like and appreciate these video conferences. Moreover, the ability to have virtual meetings allows injured workers and those seeking disability benefits from all over Alabama to meet with, hire and get the benefit of the 28+ years of experience all the lawyers at Powell and Denny have in handling workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability claims without having to worry about the distance from their homes to our offices.
If you would like to meet with one of our experienced Alabama Workers Compensation or Alabama Disability Attorneys-we can easily do so while ensuring that you are not unnecessarily exposed to the coronavirus. We can email, fax or mail any needed paperwork to you and handle the case virtually until you are comfortable coming in to meet with us in person. And for our existing clients-appointments can easily be scheduled so we can meet virtually to discuss your case as well.
If you have questions about your right to Alabama Workers’ Compensation benefits, or Social Security Disability or SSI benefits, don’t hesitate to contact the experienced attorneys at Powell and Denny today to schedule a virtual appointment or a face-to-face meeting.
