What exactly does “Free Consultation” mean?

What exactly does Free Consultation mean?

“Free consultation” has become one of those phrases people hear constantly in attorney advertisements—but what does it actually mean?

For many people, calling a law firm can already understandably feel stressful. You may be dealing with a serious work injury, mounting medical bills, or uncertainty about whether you qualify for Social Security Disability benefits. The last thing you want is to feel like you are being routed through a call center or pressured into signing paperwork before ever speaking with a lawyer.

At Powell and Denny, we believe a free consultation should mean exactly that: An opportunity to actually speak with an attorney about your case at no cost.  There is no cost incurred by you in taking the time to speak with one of out attorneys and asking your questions-you don’t have to hire our firm before talking to one of our attorneys.

When you contact our office, you will speak with either Mr. Powell or Mr. Denny—not simply passed from one non-lawyer intake person to another.  I have been personally told by attorneys who worked at large TV firms that they would walk into the office and already have 7 new clients’ files on their desk.  Those new clients did not talk to the attorney who would be representing them-they did not speak to any lawyer-just the telephone intake staff whose job was to sign them as a client-not provide any legal advice or respond to questions.  So for this firm, a “free consultation” does not mean you will actually speak with a lawyer-just to someone who works for the firm.

At Powell and Denny, we believe that before anyone decides whether to hire a lawyer, they should have the opportunity to:

  • explain what happened
  • ask questions
  • understand their rights
  • and determine whether they feel comfortable with the attorney handling their case

That is difficult to accomplish without actually speaking with the lawyer who may represent you.

We also understand that every case is different. Some people simply need guidance about what steps to take after a work injury. Others may have already been denied workers’ compensation or Social Security Disability benefits and want to know what options remain available. A meaningful consultation allows us to better evaluate your situation with you and determine whether we believe we can help.

Appointments are available in person at our offices, by telephone, or virtually through Zoom when more convenient.

If you live in Alabama and have questions about a workplace injury, workers’ compensation benefits, Social Security Disability benefits or SSI benefits, we would be happy to speak with you.

At Powell and Denny, a free consultation means more than simply calling a number—it means the opportunity to discuss your case directly with an experienced attorney.

If you have suffered a job injury or been denied in your application for Social Security Disability benefits and you have questions about your rights, please do not hesitate to contact and speak with one of the experienced Alabama Workers Compensation and Social Security Disability Lawyers at Powell and Denny today for a free consultation; and remember, virtual appointments are available through Zoom so you can meet with one of the attorneys of Powell and Denny from wherever you live. And remember, there is no fee unless you win.
