Those tax cuts from a few years ago are coming home to roost. The National Deficit is expected to balloon by Trillions because of it-so the Administration is looking for ways to save money and the least of those among us is who they are looking at.

It has already become much harder for someone to be awarded Social Security Disability Benefits, and the government has recently included another step in the process before a person seeking disability benefits can take their case before an administrative law judge for a hearing. The rationale given is that billions is being lost due to fraudulent claims-but this has been proven to be a false narrative again and again.

We are not saying there is no fraud-that would be ridiculous, but it is not a rampant or significant problem. No one thinks that those who are defrauding the government do not deserve to be prosecuted, but in the zeal to go after the few who lie to obtain benefits, those who have actual disabilities which prevent them from engaging in full time work are being pushed aside. I do not believe it is hyperbole to compare the current climate attacking Social Security Disability and SSI benefits to the days of the McCarthy Red Scare, and that those who need and deserve disability benefits are being viewed as if they are up to no good.
