Questions to Ask before Hiring an Alabama Workers’ Compensation Lawyer
If you live or work in Alabama, and you have sustained a workers’ compensation injury, most likely you have a lot of questions. Do I have a claim? Can I see my own doctor? How do I get paid if I am off work due to my injuries? This is where an experienced Alabama Workers’ Compensation Lawyer can be invaluable, but before taking the step to actually hire an Alabama Workers’ Compensation Attorney, there are several questions you ask any potential lawyer you are considering. This is the fourth of a series of seven (7) blogs in which I will go through the questions I believe an injured should ask of a lawyer before actually hiring an attorney, and it dovetails with the last two questions we suggested asking.
Four, ask if the lawyer you are talking to will be the attorney who actually handles your case. Are you talking with the actual attorney who will be working your case, or just one of their subordinates? Will the case actually be handled by a lawyer who is employed at the law firm your called?
There are large firms that advertise for Alabama workers’ compensation cases who do not actually handle workers compensation claims. What they do is advertise for the cases, then they send them out to other lawyers in other firms in return for the other firm referring them more lucrative personal injury cases. Kind of a bait and switch where the injured worker calls the number on their television, talks with a legal assistant and then hires the firm (a no-no in my opinion-see our previous blog), only later to find out that their case was farmed out to another attorney in another firm.
Don’t trust the television firm to send you to the right attorney for you and your case; talk with the attorney who will actually be handling your case and then decide if they are right for you before hiring them.
