Can I Get Disability Benefits for Forward Head Posture? I have to admit that until a few years ago, I had never heard of the medical condition “Forward Head Posture;” then I was hired by a client who suffered from FHP (a/k/a hyperkyphotic posture).

Persistent Forward Head Posture can be caused by different things, but the end result is an inability of the sufferer to hold their head in straight position on the neck and shoulders. Instead, the FHP, the person’s head sits in a forward position-unable to straighten out. This may not sound like much, but try holding your head forward for 15 minutes without assistance.

Hyhperkyphotic posture can add up to 30 pounds of pressure on your cervical spine, can lead to a loss of lung capacity, disk herniation, chronic headaches and the development of a Dowager Hump.

The Social Security Administration lists not list Forward Head Posture as a disabling condition in the Code of Federal Regulation; however, you may still be entitled to disability benefits if your condition, in conjunction with any other physical or mental impairment, prevents you from returning to work you have done in the past and other substantial work you might be qualified to perform given your age, education and acquired work skills. I know that in the case we handled, the hearing went in our client’s favor.
