Alabama High Traffic Fatality Statistics

Alabama Car Wreck Lawyers                     Alabama High Traffic Fatality Statistics

Alabama High Traffic Fatality Statistics: The other morning I was reading a newspaper article and noticed a headline stating Alabama was one of the most dangerous States to operate a car in.  According to a report issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Alabama had the 7th highest number of traffic fatalities from 2003-2012.  Alabama’s automobile accident fatality rate was nearly double the national average.

What is even more remarkable is that Alabamians buckle up more than the national average.  Something I would not have anticipated given the numbers.

One of the major reasons given for the number of traffic fatalities in Alabama is how much rural driving occurs in Alabama.  Wrecks in more rural areas statistically involve cars traveling at higher speeds than those which occur in cities, which lead to worse wrecks and injuries.

Another reason provided is the lack of healthcare available in many rural areas of Alabama.  According to the Alabama Rural Health Association, the percentage of motor vehicle fatalities is close to 56% higher than it is for those living in a more urban setting.

According to a 2011 study by the Alabama Department of Transportation, 9776 automobile accidents happened in Madison County; 2895 persons were injured and 39 lost their lives.  For Jackson County, 997 wrecks occurred in 2011 with 389 people suffering injuries and 23 dying.  There were 2156 automobile accidents in Marshall County with 677 injured and 16 deaths.  1672 car wrecks occurred in Limestone County, with 529 injuries and 24 deaths.  3157 accidents happened in Morgan County with 837 injuries and 18 deaths.

If you or a loved one was injured in an automobile accident, you have plenty on your plate already.  Worrying about ensuring the necessary steps have been taken to ensure you obtain all the compensation you need and are entitled to receive generally isn’t a major concern immediately following a car wreck but failing to ensure the appropriate steps have been taken to ensure all the relevant facts have been nailed down can lead to further frustration down the road.

You don’t have to deal with this alone.

If you have been injured in an automobile accident and you have questions about your rights under Alabama law, don’t hesitate to contact and speak with one of the experienced Alabama Car Wreck attorneys at Powell and Denny today for a free consultation.  Appointments are available in person, or virtually through Zoom for your convenience.
