Social Security Disability Benefits  Common Mistakes in Applying for Benefits V

Every day people throughout Alabama and Tennessee file for Social Security Disability (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, and over 70% of these applications will be summarily denied.  If you have been denied disability benefits, it really is in your best interest to hire an experienced Social Security Disability Lawyer to help you with your appeal, but in this blog I wanted to write about things you can do during your initial application that might help you get awarded Social Security Disability benefits without having to go through an appeal.  This is the fifth blog in this series.

5) Cooperate with what the Social Security asks you to do: I know that this seems like a no-brainer, but we have had hundreds of applicants for disability benefits contact us through the years after their initial claim for Social Security Disability benefits have been denied whose claim was denied simply because the applicant failed to respond to questions and requests made by the Social Security Administration after they filed their application.

Your claim for disability benefits is not over once you click the “Send” button on your computer.  After you application has been filed, the Social Security Administration will be contacting you and asking for additional information and documentation.  The letters you receive from Social Security can be confusing, but that does not mean that you can simply ignore them.  If you do not reply to the inquiries made by the Administration after your claim has been filed, a denial is a certainty.

Being awarded based on your application is extremely difficulty, but it is impossible if you do not cooperate fully with all the Social Security Administration asks of you.

If you are denied Social Security Disability benefits-or if you would like the help of a lawyer during the application process, don’t give up, you really should call an experienced Alabama Social Security Disability Lawyer.  Contact and speak with one of the knowledgeable Alabama Disability Attorneys at Powell and Denny today for a free consultation.  Virtual appointments are available through Zoom, so you have meet with one of our experienced Disability Lawyers from the safety, convenience and comfort of home wherever you live in Alabama or Tennessee.
