Alabama Personal Injury Attorney Social Media

Alabama Personal Injury Attorney Social Media: According to the Nielsen Annual Social Media Report, Americans spent 121 BILLION minutes on social media sites...in July 2012. That is the equivalent of 230,060 years.

In the United States, we spend approximately 20% of our time on computers liking, sharing, re-tweeting, pinning, posting, etc. on social media sites, and 30% of our time on our mobile devices doing the same. Of the time spent online, Americans spend roughly 25% of it on social media sites, and 20% of all adults with media sites keep them as public profiles.

Facebook boasts that they have 1.49 BILLION users; there are only approximately 7.125 billion people on earth. If Facebook were a nation, they would be the third most populated nation on earth, behind only China and India.

An entire generation has grown up thinking that the rest of the world really wants to know everything about them, and they are freely sharing intimate information with no thoughts about the consequences. Then there are the stories we have all seen or read about criminals putting pictures of themselves with thousands of dollars, bragging about stealing the money, or one of my favorites, the instance where a mother in a custody fight with her ex-husband posted on her MySpace page that she was going to stop using drugs for the pendency of her child custody case, but would be taking the habit back up once she got custody of her children (she lost custody).

With all this "free" information floating around the nethersphere, you should know that if you suffer a job injury, are injured in an automobile accident or suffer some other type of personal injury, the defendant's insurance carrier and their attorneys will go online to investigate you.

If you have suffered an injury, do NOT post any pictures of yourself or post anything concerning your case as it is subject to discovery, even if you have your privacy safeguards on their highest possible setting. If you have already posted such material, do NOT remove said posts or in any other way "clean up" your site as this could be seen as spoliation of evidence and not only prevent you from recovering any compensation from your injury, but also subject you to possible penalties and fines.

Think before you post. Anything posted may be used against you in court.

If you suffered a job injury, were injured in an automobile accident or suffered some other type of personal injury and you have questions about your rights, don't hesitate to contact and speak with one of the Alabama Personal Injury Attorneys at Powell and Denny.
