Alabama Job Injury Attorney Unintended Consequences

Alabama Job Injury Attorney Unintended Consequences: When you hear business leaders and politicians talk about workers compensation reform, what they are talking about it lowering costs for business/insurance companies (even though insurance companies who handle workers compensation claims are doing less and making more money today than in years-click here for a previous blog which touches on this issue). The main area discussed in saving business money deals with rising medical costs.

We have all heard how medical costs are continuing to rise at an alarming rate, and while avenues to slow down the rise should definitely be explored and pursued if feasible, one has to keep in mind that insurance companies, their lobbyist and political friends are the ones making most of the noise. Allstate made over 3 BILLION dollars in profit in the last 12 months. Liberty Mutual made just under 2 BILLION in profit, Traveler's made over 1 BILLION in profit. The insurance companies don't seem to be hurting too much.

There are also the unintended consequences of actions. If the Legislator somehow fixes medical costs for doctors who accept workers compensation patients, then the good doctors will simply get out of the business and will no longer treat injured workers. They already have to deal with the workers comp insurance carrier sending case nurse managers to bug them and push for different types of treatment than they think the injured worker requires and having their decisions routinely "over ruled" by a utilization review doctor in another State who has never seen the injured worker and does not even have all the medical records. If you cut their fees, they will leave the field to doctors who are not so good. Doctors who are happy to do whatever it takes to get workers compensation clients, and that generally means much worse treatment for injured workers.

In turn, many injured workers will never fully recover, meaning that societal costs will rise as more and more injured workers and their families will have to rely on government assistance and disability programs to make ends meet

It is not so much unintended consequences as not giving two hoots about what happens to injured Alabama workers and their families as long as the multi-million/billion dollar corporations are happy.
