Hoover Workers Compensation Lawyers Part Time Employee

Hoover Workers Compensation Lawyers Part Time Employee: The holiday season is upon us, and hundreds of people will take on part time work. UPS, Federal Express, Belks, and many other local businesses will be hiring part time employees to help during the holiday rush. What are your rights, as a part time employee, should you suffer a job injury?

Many people think that working part time means that any job injury they suffered would not be covered by their employer's workers compensation coverage since they were not full time; this is simply not the case.

Alabama's Workers Compensation Statute defines an employee as "every person in the service of another under any contract of hire, express or implied, oral or written...." The number of hours you work each work is only relevant in determining your average weekly wage. As long as the injured worker can show that (i) they were hurt at work, (ii) that their employer has 5 or more regular employees, (iii) that they were hurt at work while performing their job duties and (iv) that they provided timely notice of being hurt at work to their employer, then they have a valid workers comp claim and are entitled to all right provided by the Alabama Workers Compensation laws.

If you live or work anywhere in Metro Birmingham Alabama area, were a part time employee and were hurt at work, but you have been unsure as to whether you can pursue workers compensation benefits, contact an experienced Hoover Workers Compensation lawyer today at Powell and Denny. We would be happy to try to answer your questions about your rights under Alabama's Workers Compensation Statute.
