Can I get disability benefits for Short Bowel Syndrome Huntsville Disability Lawyer

Can I get disability benefits for Short Bowel Syndrome Huntsville Disability Lawyer: Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) is a condition in which nutrients are not properly absorbed into the body because a large portion of the small intestine is missing due to a birth defect, or because of surgical removal. In these situations, there may not be enough left in the remaining bowel to absorb enough nutrients from food.

While the symptoms of SBS can vary from person to person, common symptoms include: chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, swelling of the legs, pale or greasy stools and unexplained weight loss.

While dietary supplements and mediation can help the body properly absorb the necessary nutrients, in severe cases a feeding tube may become necessary.

The Social Security Administration lists Short Bowel Syndrome as a condition which can be disabling when the symptoms interferes with the persons ability to engage in sustained work activity. Listing 5.08 in the Code of Federal Regulations lays out in specifics the impairments which a sufferer has to have in order to qualify for Social Security Disability Benefits, however, if you do not "meet or equal" this listing, you may still be entitled to disability benefits if your condition, in conjunction with any other physical or mental impairment, prevents you from returning to work you have done in the past and other substantial work you might be qualified to perform given your age, education and acquired work skills.

If you or a loved one lives in or around Madison County, you are suffering from the effects of SBS and you believe you are disabled as the result and are entitled to Social Security Disability or SSI benefits, you do not have to take on the Social Security Administration alone.
