Alabama Workplace Fatalities

On October 20, 2009, the U.S. Department of Labor, through the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released their study on Alabama Workplace Fatalities.  Unfortunately, 70 workers lost their lives as the result of a job accident, but fortunatley this number was the lowest number of job related deaths since tracking began in 1992.  The previous low of work related deaths was 100 in 2006; the higest number of job fatalities was 155 in 1996.

In Alabama, if a job accident causes, or is a causative factor, in the death of a worker, and the death occurs within 3 years of the date of the job accident, then dependants of the deceased worker are entitled to certain death benefits under Alabama's Workers' Compensation Act.  Beneficiaries of a worker who suffered a fatal job injury are those who were totally dependant upon the deceased worker, or partially dependant upon them for support.  Death benefits are payable over 500 weeks absent an agreed to lump sum settlement.

If you have lost a loved one as the result of a fatal job accident, you already have enough to deal with; you don't have to to through this ordeal alone.  If you have any questions about an Alabama Workplace fatality, the experienced Alabama Workers Compensation attorneys at Powell and Denny  would be happy to speak with you.
